City’s Health Directorate to roll out new mobile clinics

The City of Cape Town’s Health Directorate will roll out a new fleet of mobile clinics in the coming months.

The directorate has spent R2million to acquire four new IVECO mini- buses in April this year.

The renewal of vehicles is set to cost just over a million rand and will commence once the tender process has been finalised.

City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Health, Councilor Siyabulela Makeli says “Three of City Health’s eight sub-districts use mobile clinics to reach clients in areas not situated close to existing health facilities”.

He says “These are the northern, eastern and southern sub-districts. The northern district requires two mobile clinics due to the demand in the area”.

He added that “The mobile clinics provide services available at most of our clinics, provided that the professional nurse deployed with the vehicle is trained in all disciplines”.

This includes immunizations, family planning services, HIV and TB testing and treatment, as well as basic antenatal care. He concluded.
