79 million worth of bursaries availed by WC Health department

MEC of Health, Nomafrench Mbombo went to the University of Cape Town’s medical student volunteer programme over the weekend.

The programme, that is free of charge, provides primary care to Mannenberg residents who are unable to go to healthcare facilities during the week.

Spokesperson to MEC Mbombo, Coleen Smart said, it’s essential for us in government that we expand our opportunities for as many as young people as possible so that they can access quality education and training specifically in the health field.

Smart said “this is one of the departments key strategic priorities that we broadening the base and increasing the number of medical students in the Western Cape”.


“For that reason, we are investing over 79 million during this current financial year on bursaries for all health fine students” she said.
