The Democratic Alliance has described the judgement by the Western Cape High Court regarding SABC chief Hlaudi Motsoeneng as a great day for democratic accountability.

This follows a report by the public protector Thuli Madonsela which found that Motsoeneng had lied about his qualifications and also increased his salary.

The court has ruled that Motsoeneng be suspended with immediate effect in order to allow disciplinary proceedings to take place.

DA’s James Selfe says “we took the case on because we believe it was cardinally important for the corrective action that was ordered by the public protector to be implemented that called for the suspension of Hlaudi Motsoeneng as the COO of the SABC.

Selfe adde that Motsoeneng must face disciplinary actions for his role in a variety of allegations relating to improper appointments and improper salary increases, Selfe added.
