President Zuma calls for peace in Soweto

President Jacob Zuma has called for the violent protest in Soweto to be brought under control.

Over 120 people have been arrested and about 80 shops owned by foreign nationals have been looted.

Violence erupted in Soweto on Monday after a 14-year-old was shot dead allegedly by a foreign national after he robbed his store, the foreign national has since been arrested. 

Presidential Spokesperson Mac Maharaj says the president has instructed the security cluster in cabinet as well as the provincial local government leadership in Gauteng and Limpopo to work together to bring the situation under control and work towards restoring normal scene.

“President Zuma will fly back to South Africa today. President Zuma is on a work full visit to Davos to attend the world economic forum annual meeting" Maharaj added.
