WC festive season fatalities stand at 68

Western Cape Traffic Authorities conducted 12 roadblocks across the province on Friday specifically for drunken and driving and illegal substance. 

During the roadblocks 1 346 vehicles were stopped and checked, 684 drivers were tested for alcohol and 2 drunken drivers were arrested. 

Provincial Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said the highest reading was recorded in Knysna a reading of 0.71 mg/1 000 ml. The total amount of fines that we issued was R223 100 and we also tested the speed of 7 048 of which we prosecuted 476 drivers for exceeding the speed limit.

Meanwhile six fatalities have been recorded so over for the weekend.  Provincial Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said four pedestrians died in motor vehicle accidents in Mowbray, Harara, Robertson road and another one in the Winelands.

And as for the festive season 68 people have died in the province, they consists of 41 pedestrians, 10 passengers, 2 cyclists, 5 motor cyclists and 10 drivers of motor vehicles.
