Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works has released its latest crash witness video.

This initiative was launched back in 2011 to try and change driver and pedestrian behaviour on the roads.

In the Western Cape between January 1st and September 15th this year there have been 133 child deaths. 85 pedestrians were killed and 59 of them were children between one and ten-years-old.

Ministerial Spokesperson Siphesihle Dube said the focus of this campaign is to show the face of the first respondent in case particularly children have been knocked down on the roads.

Dube said MEC Grant has urged all motorists to really pay careful attention to children particularly on our roads because they are the most vulnerable because of their size and are easily injured.

Meanwhile the African Christian Democratic Party in the province has welcomed this road safety campaign.

ACDP Provincial Leader Ferlon Christians said they commend the provincial government in making the public aware of the consequences of driving recklessly on the road.

Christians said as the festive season approaches and the high accident rates over weekends we urge motorists to look at this video.

“We are glad that this video is timeless and we believe motorists and road users can look at this video and change their bad behaviours on the roads” Christians added.
