Golden Arrow has confirmed that eleven of its buses have been targeted this morning as taxi violence is escalating in Nyanga and Philippi.

Golden Arrow’s Spokesperson Bronwynne Dyke said they managed to retrieve four of their buses out of Nyanga before they were set alight but they were badly damaged.

Dyke said Golden Arrow bus drivers were also attacked during the protest.

“Because we cannot ensure the safety of our passengers or our drivers at this stage we cannot operate within Nyanga.  We will therefore be collecting passengers at the corners of N2 and Borchards Quarry as well as Manenberg police station” Dyke added.

Meanwhile Bush Radio’s Bulelani Guwa said taxi’s and buses have been forbidden to travel and load passengers in Khayelitsha.

Guwa said the situation is expected to accelerate later in the afternoon and taxi drivers in Khayelitsha are asking passengers to stay away from using public transport.
